If you’re in the United States, you’re probably aware of an upcoming important holiday. Independence Day is celebrated on the 4th of July to commemorate our freedom from Great Britain.
Celebrations vary among individuals. Some people choose the beach, some opt for a park BBQ, while others, including myself, prefer a relaxing day at home.
People get ready for this day by starting their preparations weeks in advance. They buy food, beverages, and fireworks.
If you have pets, you must get them ready, too.
Domestic and wildlife animals suffer the consequences of our actions.
Fireworks are loud and unpredictable- they startle and confuse animals and trigger the fight-or-flight response.
More pets go missing from July 4th-July 6th than any other time.
Dogs and cats jump the fence and run away. Some are found safe, injured, or dead. I do not want to scare you, but this is the grim reality.
Any holiday involving fireworks is a nightmare for most animals.
